We believe film is a powerful medium for sharing stories and perspectives — a glimpse into lives that feel distant, and the start of conversations that last long after the credits.
Since its inception in 2016, the MINDS Film Festival (MFF) has become an important platform to share uplifting stories of Persons with Intellectual Disability (PWIDs) and celebrate their gifts and abilities through film.
Jointly presented by MINDS and Singapore Film Society, the annual event aims to raise awareness and understanding of ID, spark conversations and encourage the community to step forward to advocate for greater social inclusion.
We rotate formats year-on-year to maximise reach and impact. Theatre runs anchor the experience in a cinematic setting, while alternate editions are free community screenings in neighbourhood venues – bringing stories directly to caregivers, families, and self-advocates where they are.
What stays constant is our purpose – sharing stories about Persons with Intellectual Disability, told with warmth and craft, with audiences who might not otherwise encounter them. The format evolves; the mission endures.
We believe film is a powerful medium for sharing stories and perspectives — a glimpse into lives that feel distant, and the start of conversations that last long after the credits.
We collaborate with MINDS Social Enterprises, crafters and bakers to sell baked goods and handmade delights, creating opportunities for audiences to interact through craft, food and shared experiences in a warm, welcoming space.
Through light-hearted pre-screening activities, we encourage meaningful conversations and connections, fostering greater empathy and a deeper sense of shared understanding.
For both heartland and theatre screenings, we aim to bring stories about PWIDs to communities in all pockets of Singapore by exploring different locations and meaningful collaborations.
